Educational Specialist Degree (EdS) in School Psychology Program
Program Description
Successful completion of the EdS in School Psychology Program at Edinboro University, along with a passing Praxis II score, culminates with the specialist certificate as a school psychologist in the state of Pennsylvania. Graduates are also eligible to apply for national certification.
The EdS in School Psychology Program is a 67 credit hybrid program. Classes are primarily online, with approximately one Saturday class per month in person during the fall and spring terms. During the second year of the program, students complete a part-time practicum experience totaling 400 hours. The third year of the program is comprised of a full-time internship totaling at least 1200 hours.
While completing the EdS in School Psychology Program, students will also earn the MEd in Educational Psychology degree.
Mission and Philosophy
The School Psychology Program prepares its graduates for the professional practice of psychology in the schools by emphasizing a scientist-practitioner model of training. The mission of the program is to prepare graduates students according to the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) training standards and develop leaders in schools for using empirically supported practices related to instruction, mental health/crisis intervention, and special education. The program provides a solid foundation of instruction, research, and field experience, which reflects current, empirically supported methods in Psychology and Education. These experiences prepare graduates to provide assistance and expertise in the assessment and intervention of problems experienced by children, schools, and communities.
Respect for diversity among individuals, diversity among groups, and diversity among communities is emphasized throughout the curriculum. The goal of our program is to help each candidate to identify and apply his/her unique talents while solving problems using data based approaches that allow him/her to work with children and families having a broad range of needs. The focus of our program is on the application of empirically supported approaches to assist all children in achieving academic success, social competence, and emotional and physical health.
